What is Mo’ Motion Dance Fitness Camp for Youth?

Mo’ Motion Dance Fitness Camp for Youth is a highly specialized summer dance program that was created in 2010 in response to the epidemic of obesity in American children. Through a strong partnership with  GIWAYEN MATA, Inc. and Dancing SOL Productions, sponsored in part by Georgia State University School of Music, this 1 week summer program offered at Drew Charter School in Atlanta, GA has been designed for girls who are obese, at risk for being obese, and who are interested in developing a healthier lifestyle.

Mo’ Motion Dance Fitness Camp for Youth is dedicated to teaching lifelong fitness skills through dance and movement and also to training the next generation of youth leaders in our field.

The plans to offer this Atlanta based camp are in alignment with Giwayen Mata's pattern of service to the community and commitment to health and wellness.  Embedded in its name, the philosophy of Dancing SOL Productions- "Dancing Saves Our Lives" is a leading thought process for Mo' Motion Dance and Fitness Camp for Youth.

What is Obesity?

According to the Center for Disease Control, obesity one of the terms used to label “ranges of weight that are greater than what is generally considered healthy for a given height.”  Along with overweight, “the terms also identify ranges of weight that have been shown to increase the likelihood of certain diseases and other health problems.”

Childhood obesity has become a growing issue in American society. It affects children of every ethnic background, income level, status, etc.  The CDC also tells us that “obesity now affects 17% of all children and adults in the United States.” According to an article written by national environmental activist and eco-living expert Laura Turner Seydel entitled Take Action Against Asthma and Obesity “Atlanta has the second highest rate of childhood obesity in the nation”.  The goal of Mo’ Motion Dance Fitness Camp for Youth is to inspire a lifelong commitment to total body wellness in order to keep obesity at bay.
